Day 49: 100 day prayer challenge for President Barack Obama

Psalm 27 as a prayer. Psalm 27; 1 Timothy 2:1-2

David was king of Israel and a writer of the Psalms. Many of the Psalms, like Psalm 27, read like prayers to God. Like most Psalms, Psalm 27 is beautifully expressed, and though not every thought expressed therein is directly applicable to President Barack Obama, God would surely bless him for taking the time to read, contemplate and meditate upon the thoughts and spirit expressed therein.

Therefore, we pray to our great and holy God that President Barack Obama will read, contemplate, and meditate upon Psalm 27, and all of the Psalms in the Bible.

Psalm 27 *New Living Translation)

A psalm of David.
1 The Lord is my light and my salvation—
so why should I be afraid?
The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger,
so why should I tremble?
2 When evil people come to devour me,
when my enemies and foes attack me,
they will stumble and fall.
3 Though a mighty army surrounds me,
my heart will not be afraid.
Even if I am attacked,
I will remain confident.

4 The one thing I ask of the Lord—
the thing I seek most—
is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
delighting in the Lord’s perfections
and meditating in his Temple.
5 For he will conceal me there when troubles come;
he will hide me in his sanctuary.
He will place me out of reach on a high rock.
6 Then I will hold my head high
above my enemies who surround me.
At his sanctuary I will offer sacrifices with shouts of joy,
singing and praising the Lord with music.

7 Hear me as I pray, O Lord.
Be merciful and answer me!
8 My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.”
And my heart responds, “Lord, I am coming.”
9 Do not turn your back on me.
Do not reject your servant in anger.
You have always been my helper.
Don’t leave me now; don’t abandon me,
O God of my salvation!
10 Even if my father and mother abandon me,
the Lord will hold me close.

11 Teach me how to live, O Lord.
Lead me along the right path,
for my enemies are waiting for me.
12 Do not let me fall into their hands.
For they accuse me of things I’ve never done;
with every breath they threaten me with violence.
13 Yet I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness
while I am here in the land of the living.

14 Wait patiently for the Lord.
Be brave and courageous.
Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.

Subject citizens. Romans 13:1-7; Titus 3:1-2; 1 Peter 2:13-17; Timothy 2:1-2

Father, we thank You for the blessings we have as citizens of the United States. We have rights and privileges that some countries do not enjoy. We can proclaim Your word freely. We can assemble openly to worship You. We can do this without fear of government persecution. Indeed, in the event of threats or violence, we even have the right to expect the government to protect and avenge us. We are so blessed and thankful.

Ruling a nation such as ours, however, Lord isn't easy. It takes a physical and mental toll on our Presidents. We pray therefore that You will bless President Barack Obama with a nation of citizens who will subject themselves to him and the other lawful authorities ruling over us. May we not be a burden to them and may they lead us justly.

Day 45: 100 day prayer challenge for President Barack Obama

Honesty.

Dear God, we pray that President Barack Obama is always honest with his nation.  Some criticize the President for being blunt or pessimistic.  Father, we pray that President Obama always tells us the truth as clearly and as accurately as it can be told, without hyperbole, exaggeration or sugar coating.  Lord, we care less about the emotional impact the truth will have on its listeners, than having a leader whom we can trust will always tell us the truth.  In recent years we have not been so fortunate.

Lord, we have had Presidents who made promises they could not deliver.  We have had Presidents who said, "Read my lips, no new taxes!"  Admittedly, Father, we don't want taxes, but we want lies even less.  May President Obama never make us a promise because it is politically expedient to do so, especially when he doesn't know whether he can fulfill that promise.

God, we have had Presidents wag their fingers in our faces and tell us plainly that they, "have not had sex with that woman,"  when it fact they had.  Father, we don't want to be led by adulterers, nor do we want our Presidents to lie to us either.  May President Obama always admit, repent and take responsibility for his faults, and so lead us by example.

Father, we have had Presidents rush our nation into war without good cause.  They based their reasons on false and incomplete information, which they cherry-picked from biased, out-daed and unreliable sources. They have taken us to war without planning its outcome and they have declared victory and "Mission Accomplished" years before the conflict had ended.  This has sullied the good name of our nation before the world, our allies, our enemies, and worse still, You.

Lord, may President Obama take us into war only as a last resort, only in self defense of the lives of its citizens, and never for economic or political reasons.  If he ever takes us to war Lord, we pray that he thoroughly investigate the reasons for war, the facts supporting these reasons, and the sources of the facts.  May he plan not only the war itself, but the victory, the exit strategy and the costs.  Then, may he tell the American people the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth with respect to the war he will lead us into.

Humility, prayer & repentance leading to healing. 1 Chronicles 7:14; 1 Timothy 2:1-2

Heavenly Father, our nation is struggling. You blessed us with economic and material prosperity, which we squandered. Our immorality grew as fast as our blessings. The more we received, the more we wanted. We became decadent and too busy for You. Now many have what they cannot afford, and many are losing their jobs and their homes.

Father, we pray that President Barack Obama will lead our nation in prayer, humility and repentance so You will heal our land.

Day 28: 100 day prayer challenge for President Barack Obama

Wise counsel. 1 Kings 12; Proverbs 13:20; 1 Timothy 2:1-2

Our Father in Heaven, we know that Solomon wrote, "He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companion of fools will suffer harm."  We remember how Rehoboam did not seek the counsel of Solomon's elders, but from his young friends, and afterwards the Kingdom of Israel was divided.  We pray therefore Lord that President Barack Obama never seeks comforting words from friends, but rather true and wise counsel from men of experience.

Day 27: 100 day prayer challenge for President Barack Obama

Bipartisanship through love.  1 Corinthians 13:4-5; 1 Timothy 2:1-2

Loving Father, we pray that President Barack Obama always reflect upon the words of Paul before he approaches adversarial congressional leaders:
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.”

Day 26: 100 day prayer challenge for President Barack Obama

Faithful spouse. Proverbs 5:15, 18; 1 Timothy 2:1-2

Dear God, You know that our nation has not always been blessed with Presidents who were faithful to their wives. Some of our leaders in the past have led shameful lives, and disgraced our country.

Lord, we pray that President Barack Obama never follows in the footsteps of  his predecessors who were adulterers.  May he always drink from his own cistern.  May he always rejoice with the wife of his youth.

God we ask this because we know that we cannot trust a leader to be honest  with us, and to look after the best interests of those whom he has never met, if he will lie to and cheat his wife whom he knows and once loved.

Day 25: 100 day prayer challenge for President Barack Obama

Bipartisanship & Forgiveness. Matthew 18:21-22; 1 Timothy 2:1-2

Merciful Father, as President Barack Obama rightly extols the virtues of bipartisanship and civility, we pray he remembers Your Son's admonition regarding forgiveness.  Trust, bipartisanship, and civility in Washington will not be reciprocated overnight.  At times, good deeds and kind words will be repaid with obstinacy, obstructionism, and accusations.  Only a President that is willing to forgive these faults seventy times seven times, while continuing to do good himself, will be able to restore a level of civil and cooperation in Washington.  Therefore, Lord, help our President have a forgiving heart.

Do not cause children to sin. Matthew 18:6; 1 Timothy 2:1-2

Heavenly Father, we pray that President Barack Obama never does or says anything that sets a sinful example for young people to see.  Because he is our President, his influence is great.  Young people look up to their Presidents.  May President Obama's speech and conduct always reflect the values You would have us teach the children You have blessed us with.

Day 23: 100 day prayer challenge for President Barack Obama

Bipartisanship through love of others. 1 Corinthians 13:1-3

Most loving Father, we pray that President Barack Obama continues to look for a return on any bipartisan efforts over the long run. Washington did not become caustic overnight, and we are not so naive as to believe that its politicians will be confused with a choir overnight either.

Because bipartisanship is ultimately in the best interests of our nation, we pray that President Barack Obama and the leaders of congress remember and reflect upon the words of Your Apostle Paul:

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.
Dear Lord never let President Obama forget that only after he has consistently displayed civility, reason, and empathy over a longer period of time, will his opponents accept him as a fellow laborer as opposed to an adversary.

Guarding hearts & planning paths.  Proverbs 4:23, 26; 1 Timothy 2:1-2

Dear God, we know that out of our hearts spring the issues of life. Our hearts determine the course of our lives. We pray therefore that President Barack Obama guards his heart above all else, with diligence and vigilance because his heart can affect the lives of all Americans.

As he guards his heart, O Lord, we pray that he also carefully plan and consider the course and direction for our nation. Help him always to remember where we have been as a nation, why we are where ever we are at any point in time, and where You would have us to be. May he never leave our course and direction to chance. May he always be consumed with the safety and righteousness of the United States.

Our Father in heaven, we pray that You will help President Barack Obama. Guide him to lead our nation in righteousness. Help him lead our nation to pursue mercy, brotherly kindness, and a love that seeks to put the interests of others ahead of ourselves.

Day 19: 100 day prayer challenge for President Barack Obama

Put our trust in God. Psalm 20:7; 1 Timothy 2:1-2

Almighty God, we pray that President Barack Obama adopt the spirit of the Psalmist who says that "some trust in chariots, and some in horses; But we will remember the name of the LORD our God."

Never let our President forget that America has never been blessed because of military or economic might, but because at times past America and her causes have been just. As President Dwight D. Eisenhower quoted French historian Alexis de Tocqueville:

I sought for the greatness and genius of America in her commodious harbors and her ample rivers — and it was not there … in her fertile fields and boundless forests — and it was not there … in her rich mines and her vast world commerce — and it was not there … in her democratic Congress and her matchless Constitution — and it was not there. Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits flame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power. America is great because she is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.

Father, we pray not for greatness, but we ask simply for Your help for America , that she always remain good.

We also pray that our President will join in our prayer, and lead his people by example.  May he always strive to keep American just.  May he always revere Your name and may his own speech and conduct always be wise, humble, gentle, honest and reverent.

Almighty God, we pray that President Barack Obama will turn to You in prayer when he or our nation is in trouble. We pray that You will answer his prays and permit those plans of his that are for the common good to succeed.

We pray that President Obama never forgets the Source of his blessings; that he always remains humble; and that he never raises a banner of victory, presumptuously nor prematurely, but when success does come he acknowledges You publicly as the reason for our success.

Day 17 Bonus Prayer: 100 day prayer challenge for President Barack Obama

Abortion, Prayer & Thanksgiving.

Our Father in heaven, we thank You for answered prayers. We have prayed that President Barack Obama would speak to young people about, "the sacredness of human life," and that he would lead public prayers. We are thankful to You because yesterday President Obama took a small step in that direction when at a prayer breakfast he reaffirmed his claim to be Christian and said, "There is no God who condones taking the life of an innocent human being. This much we know."

Dear Lord, we pray that President Obama appreciates fully the wisdom of the words he spoke, and if he doesn't, that he learns to appreciate them.

Today, Lord, we also pray a special prayer for Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg who is having a cancerous tumor removed from her pancreas. Father, we pray that her surgery will be a success, that you will heal her of her infirmities, and that you will bless the hands that minister to her.

Father, if it be Your will that any of the existing Justices should step down or need to be replaced for any reason, we pray that President Obama does not appoint a Justice to the bench that values a woman's right to choose an abortion over a baby's right to live.

Day 14: 100 day prayer challenge for President Barack Obama

Lead us not into temptation. Matthew 6:9-13; Luke 11:2-4; 1 Corinthians 10:13; 1 Timothy 2:12

Our most merciful Father in Heaven, Your Son taught us to pray, "lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one."

God we know that You will not allow us to be tempted beyond which we are able to overcome, but with every temptation You will provide us with a means of escaping temptation without sin.

Lord, Barack Obama has assumed a lot of responsiblity by becoming president. He will be understandably busy and distracted over the next four years. Because he leads our nation, and can be an example to our people, we pray that You will always remind him of his need for You, and help him in times of temptation to always see an easy way to avoid sin.

Day 13: 100 day prayer challenge for President Barack Obama

Forgive us our trespasses.

from Matthew 6:9-13; Luke 11:2-4; Romans 3:23; 1 John 1:8-10; James 2:13; 1 Timothy 2:12

Merciful Father in heaven, we pray for our president, Barack Obama. May he always seek absolution from You and may he also always have a forgiving spirit himself.

Dear Lord, we do not seek to impugne the integrity of our leader. We know that all men have sinned and fallen short of Your glory. We lie if we say we have not sinned, but You are faithful to forgive us of our trespasses if we will confess our sins to You. Therefore Father, we pray that our President always have a humble heart that allows him to admit his errors. May pride and arrogance never enter his heart, and keep him from You.

Dear God, we know that You are merciful to those who are merciful. Therefore, we pray that President Obama is always merciful and forgiving towards those who sin against him.

Day 12: 100 day prayer challenge for President Barack Obama

Presumptuous sins and acceptable hearts.  Psalm 19:13-14; 1 Corinthians 10:13; 1 Timothy 2:1-2

Dear God, only You know the hearts and minds of men. We cannot read minds, we can only make imperfect judgments based upon perception and limited information. Nonetheless, Lord, because You have instructed us to pray for our leaders, we offer this prayer on behalf of President Barack Obama, not because he has sinned, but because he is our leader and because of his position he has tremendous potential for influence, both good and bad.

Lord, we reverently ask that You give President Obama a humble heart that desires to stay away from presumptuous sins; that You grant him the strength of will to not allow sin to have dominion over him. May he strive to be blameless.

Lord, we pray that the words of President Obama's mouth and the meditations of his heart always be acceptable in Your sight.

Day 11: 100 day prayer challenge for President Barack Obama

Honoring God and accepting His will. From Matthew 6:9-13; Luke 11:2-4

Dear God, when Your Son taught us to pray, He instructed us to hallow your name, and pray that Your will be done. We understand that the command to hallow Your name means that we should regard it as holy and sacred, and that hallowing Your name is the same as venerating it.

We pray therefore O Lord that all of our nation's leaders from the greatest unto the least regard Your name as holy.  We pray that all men regard You as holy, but we especially pray that President Obama always respects Your authority and regards You as holy.

We are mindful dear Lord of President Obama's influence among our citizens, our young people, and his fans throughout the world.  His actions, conduct and speech will be imitated and praised by his followers, and criticized by those who hate him or our country.  Because President Obama wears Your Son's name, and calls himself a Christian, some non-Christians will judge Your kingdom by his conduct, actions and speech. We pray therefore that he will always be mindful of this, that he always regard You and Your name as holy, and that he always respect Your will, as should we.

Father we ask that You give President Obama the presence of mind to always be aware of his speech and actions.  Never let him forget that with his office he has an increased potential for influence, both good and bad. May his heart always be right.  May he always humbly accept Your will, and may neither he, nor we, ever say or do anything that may bring reproach upon Your good name.

Day 10: 100 day prayer challenge for President Barack Obama

Answered prayers and soft words. from Ecclesiastes 9:11; 1 Timothy 2:1-2; Daniel 4:1-25; James 4:3; Proverbs 15:1

Heavenly Father, we thank you for answered prayers, and the patience and wisdom displayed by President Barack Obama when he spoke to the Muslim world through the Al-Arabiya Network on Monday.

On Saturday Lord, we prayed our president would gather facts before acting and on Monday he told the Muslim world that his instructions to his envoy George Mitchell were to listen and not dictate.

On Tuesday Lord, we prayed that our president and Republican leaders would work meet together that day in a bi-partisan spirit to discuss our country's economic stimulus plan.  Reports on Wednesday indicated that they did have a civil and productive meeting, and that the participants complimented each other's demeanor and willingness to work together and to listen.

Father we do not presume to always know when Your hand is at work. Your word says that time and chance happen to all men.  But, we also know that You have instructed us to pray to You on behalf of our leaders.  We have done as You have instructed.  We have not asked amiss.  Whether our prayers were answered through Your providence, or by chance, we have been blessed and we thank You.

We thank You also Lord for the maturity and wisdom displayed by President Obama.  During his campaign, he promised to listen to all sides of every issue.  His conduct on Monday and Tuesday displayed a willingness to keep this promise.  We pray that he continues to do so on every issue in the years ahead.

Thank You God for a leader who publicly demonstrated the wisdom in Your proverb, "a soft answer turns away wrath," when he told the Muslim community that America is not its enemy.

Lord, we know our president is not perfect, nor is the nation of citizens  he leads, but we are thankful to You for the blessings we have.  We will continue to work to improve ourselves.  We will continue to pray that our president and nation will follow Your will, and that You will continue to bless them both.

Day 8 bonus prayer: 100 day prayer challenge for President Barack Obama

Bipartisanship and civility.

Heavenly Father, President Barack Obama is headed to Capitol Hill to speak to House and Senate Republicans. We pray for success on all sides for the betterment of our country.

Dear Lord, may all the participants seek your guidance before they meet in private. May they call on your name in public. Help them display brotherly kindness and agapeo love toward one another. May they have enough patience to listen to each other. May they all work together in a bipartisan spirit. May they be willing to compromise political ideology for common good.

Lord we pray that our leaders leave these meetings with stronger and better relationships than they had before.

Please bless these meetings. May our nation be better off because they occurred. Please bless our nation.

Day 8: 100 day prayer challenge for President Barack Obama

Praying Like Jesus. (The Scriptural support for this prayer can be found in this linked article.)

Dear Lord, Barack Obama has assumed one of the most difficult jobs on earth., but he cannot succeed without Your help. Because he is our leader, and our nation's well-being is tied to his success, we earnestly pray that President Obama learns to speak to You often about everything, just as Your Son did.

Jesus had a habit of praying. Jesus would pray at any time of the day or night . Jesus planned for opportunities to pray. He would even on occasion rise long before daylight to pray. Dear Lord, we ask that President Obama will develop a daily habit of prayer, and schedule in advance the times he will speak to You in prayer.

Jesus prayed to You regardless of where He was. Jesus prayed in the wilderness , on mountains, and at Gethsemane. We ask You Lord to give President Obama the presence of mind to take advantage of his opportunities to pray, just as Christ did.

Jesus prayed long prayers and short prayers. God, assure Our President that his prayers have no required length as long as they are humble and sincere.

Jesus prayed on many different types of occasions. Jesus prayed when He was baptized and began His ministry, before He selected twelve disciples to be His Apostles, at His transfiguration, before instituting the Lord’s Supper, and at His moments of greatest need. Father, we pray that our president knows that every occasion presents an opportunity to speak to You.

Jesus would pray privately, in small groups and publicly. At times, Jesus sought opportunities to pray alone. At times, He even asked the disciples to stay behind, or sent them away, so He could pray alone. On other occasions, He took disciples with Him to pray. Lord, we are confident that our president speaks to You privately, but because he is our leader we pray that he will set an example by closing his weekly radio addresses with a public prayers each week.

Jesus prayed for many different people: Himself, The Apostles, All believers , His enemies, and the entire world. God give our president a compassionate and forgiving heart to pray for all people also.

Jesus prayed for many different things, such as: Your work and that Your will be done, that children be blessed, and that believers be strengthened and be able to strengthen others. Father, assure our president that he can speak to you about anything.

Jesus would pray for the right reasons. Jesus would not forget that You are a prayer’s target audience, not others listening to His prayer. God, may President Obama always remember that when praying he should enlist Your help, not other’s attention.

Jesus would pray with faith, not doubting whether You would answer His prayer. God, we know President Obama has faith. Nonetheless, grant him the confidence to approach Your throne in prayer fulling expecting Your help.

Jesus understood that some things happen only through prayer. Lord, when President Obama's days become long, when the weight of the world rests upon his shoulders, when the fate of our nation or the entire world seems to hang on his judgment, when he looks around and cannot find a friend to help him in his hour of need, bless him Lord and remind him of the peace that comes from talking to You.

Day 7: 100 day prayer challenge for President Barack Obama

Abortion from Exodus 21:22-25; Psalms 139:13-16; Ecclesiastes 11:3-5; Jeremiah 32:35-36; Romans 13:1-7

Dear Lord, we ask for Your help.

Our nation's constitution obligates our president to support and defend  our rights as set forth in our constitution.  Our supreme court has decided that one of these rights allows women to kill babies before they are born.

We thank you Lord for appointing for us a leader who knows that unintended pregnancies are a problem in our country.  We pray that President Obama will speak to our country, and especially our young people, about the virtues of abstinence before marriage.

We thank you Lord for a leader who takes the time to listen to all sides of an issue.  We ask You Lord to move President Obama to say publicly that Christians know full well that preaching abstinence before marriage will not abolish premarital sex anymore than the very hand of God writing ten commandments on stone abolished sin in Israel.  We ask You Lord to move President Obama to say publicly that the justification for a policy (such as advocating abstinence) isn't measured solely by its effectiveness to accomplish its goal, but also by the virtue behind the policy.

We know Lord that our president can neither legalize, nor penalize abortion.  He can neither pass laws, nor sentence criminals.  He can, however, lead and his words can help shape the attitude of a nation.  We pray, therefore,  that President Obama speak to our young people about the dangers of unprotected sex, the virtues of abstinence, the difficulties faced by single girls made mothers before their time, the sacredness of human life, the value of a soul, and the sadness of the barren.

Dear Lord we pray that our president never casually speak of a "right" to abortion as something that is accepted,  or in any manner that would suggest to his audience that this is an option he would ever advocate under any circumstance for any member of his own family.

Father you once used Babylon to destroy Jerusalem in part because some in that city sacrificed their children to pagan gods.  We pray Lord, that our nation repents of abortion before You judge us.

Day 6: 100 day prayer challenge for President Barack Obama

A mind to work, From Nehemiah 4:6; 1 Timothy 2:1-2; Romans 13:1-7; Titus 3:1-2; 1 Peter 2:13-17;

Our Father in Heaven, yesterday we sought Your help to guide President Obama to imitate the leadership qualities of Nehemiah.  We asked that he adopt Nehemiah's pattern of praying to You for guidance before making decisions, gathering facts before acting, and leading his people to repent from sin and immorality.

Today, Lord, we ask that you bless President Obama with a nation of people willing to do their part to make their country better.  Jersusalem's walls were built in part because of Nehemiah's leadership, but the people lifted the stones and defended the walls.  As the Scriptures say, "the people had a mind to work."  Give us this mind and attitude dear Lord.

Please bless our president with a people who pray for his success, subject themselves to his lawful authority, and work with him for the betterment of our nation.

Day 5: 100 day prayer challenge for President Barack Obama

Rebuilding the nation's economy, civility, and Godliness as Nehemiah rebuilt the Walls of Jerusalem (the book of Nehemiah; James 5:16)

Lord, we pray for President Barack Obama and our nation. Our President inherits a country with the worst economy in 50 years. Worst yet, he leads a nation where godlessness and immorality is often the norm, even espoused. Our country's problems have been compounded by a lack of civility in its leaders - a problem we have always had, but one that has worsened appreciably over the last 24 years in escalating litigious party partisanship. Our leaders are more concerned with sound bites, fundraisings, personal gain, revenge and tactics than the welfare of their nation.  At times, our leaders'  poor example is admired by the citizens they lead.

We ask Lord that President Obama adopt the spirit and mindset of Nehemiah so that his efforts to rebuild our economy and restore selfless civility in our country succeed.

Nehemiah wept over the condition of his country and countrymen and then prayed to You on their behalf. Nehemiah confessed the sins of his nation, and assumed the responsibility for leading the people into repentance. When our President approaches Your throne in prayer Lord, we ask that he, too, confess our sinful condition to You. Let him pray to you with the same desperation that motivated Nehemiah. Nehemiah prayed for success on behalf of his people. May you reward our President's fervent prayers by blessing his work on our behalf.

Lord, Nehemiah sought courage from You when he sought favor from King Artaxerxes. May President Barack Obama consult your counsel and guidance before seeking assistance from Senate and Congressional leaders. May he then approach them with a kind, gentle, and humble spirit. May he set an example of civility and non-partisanship for our leaders and citizens to follow.

Lord, when Nehemiah arrived in Jerusalem to rebuild the walls, the first thing he did was inspect their conditions himself before leading the people in the work. We pray Lord, that our President will always be diligent to gather all the facts before leading our nation in any effort.

When faced by doubters who scoffed at the prospects of success, Nehemiah did not waver. Bolstered by his conversations with You and his review of the facts, He remained confident. We pray Lord that our President will also remember that consulting you brings peace of mind, focus, direction and confidence to lead.

When opposition came to attack the work on the walls in Jerusalem, Nehemiah prayed for protection. May Barack Obama always remember that opposition will come, and when it does, he should lead our nation in a public prayer for protection also.

When work on the wall was completed, Nehemiah continued too lead the people by reminding them of their sinful ways and the need to return to God. We pray Lord that President Obama never forget that our country's problems are more than economic, and his responsibilities are more numerous than one task. May he never forget that he is the leader of our country. He is an example to our people and his conduct, speech, and actions impact our spiritual well-being.

Day 4: 100 day prayer challenge for President Barack Obama

Knowledge and Wisdom. From Colossians 1:8-9; 1 Timothy 2:1-2

Lord, we intercede on behalf of President Barack Obama and pray that he may be filled with the knowledge of Your will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding, and that this knowledge and wisdom will guide his daily conduct, speech and walk so that he may be a blessing to the nation that he leads. We pray that as his knowledge of Your will guides his life, You will cause his efforts on behalf of our nation to prosper in effectiveness and productivity, and that You will reward him by blessing him and his family.

Rick Warren's prayer for President Barack Obama

Let us pray.

Almighty God, our father, everything we see and everything we can't see exists because of you alone. It all comes from you, it all belongs to you. It all exists for your glory. History is your story.

The Scripture tells us Hear, oh Israel, the Lord is our God; the Lord is one. And you are the compassionate and merciful one. And you are loving to everyone you have made.

Now today we rejoice not only in America's peaceful transfer of power for the 44th time. We celebrate a hinge-point of history with the inauguration of our first African-American president of the United States.

We are so grateful to live in this land, a land of unequaled possibility, where the son of an African immigrant can rise to the highest level of our leadership.

And we know today that Dr. King and a great cloud of witnesses are shouting in Heaven.

Give to our new president, Barack Obama, the wisdom to lead us with humility, the courage to lead us with integrity, the compassion to lead us with generosity. Bless and protect him, his family, Vice President Biden, the Cabinet, and every one of our freely elected leaders.

Help us, oh God, to remember that we are Americans, united not by race or religion or blood, but to our commitment to freedom and justice for all.

When we focus on ourselves, when we fight each other, when we forget you, forgive us. When we presume that our greatness and our prosperity is ours alone, forgive us. When we fail to treat our fellow human beings and all the Earth with the respect that they deserve, forgive us.

And as we face these difficult days ahead, may we have a new birth of clarity in our aims, responsibility in our actions, humility in our approaches, and civility in our attitudes, even when we differ.

Help us to share, to serve and to seek the common good of all.

May all people of good will today join together to work for a more just, a more healthy and a more prosperous nation and a peaceful planet. And may we never forget that one day all nations and all people will stand accountable before you.

We now commit our new president and his wife, Michelle, and his daughters, Malia and Sasha, into your loving care.

I humbly ask this in the name of the one who changed my life, Yeshua, Isa, Jesus, Jesus (hay-SOOS), who taught us to pray, Our Father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.

Amen.
