Invitation: Christianity similar to military

My son William is 10 years old. This is his first invitation, which he will deliver on Wednesday, March 18, 2009:

I N V I T A T I O N
One of my interests is all things military. Christianity has some things in common with the military. For example, both soldiers and Christians have the following in common:

  1. Training. Ephesians 6:4. Both soldiers and Christians need training [Read]

  2. Discipline. 1 Corinthians 9:27. Just like a soldier, Paul recognized the necessity of self-discipline. [Read]

  3. Orderly. 1 Corinthians 14:40. Collectively soldiers and Christians are to work together in an orderly fashion. [Read]

  4. War. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5. Soldiers and Christians are trained for battle, but a Christian's war is spiritual in nature. [Read]

  5. Uniform. Soldiers are dressed with the latest technology, but Ephesians 6:10-17 says that Christians are to be suited with truth, righteousness, faith, God's word, the gospel, and salvation.

  6. Follow orders. Colossians 1:18. Soldiers follow the orders of their commanders. Christians recognize Christ as the Head of the church. [Read]
If you are willing to enlist in God's army and follow Christ's commands, then please step forward to be baptized as we stand and sing.

Scriptures appropriate for Wednesday Night Invitations

Spring Warrior, like most churches, has a mid-week meeting each week. We will divide into Bible study groups for 45 minutes and then the whole church will come together at the end for a song, a short lesson inviting people to become a Christian and inviting Christians who have fallen away to repent, an invitation song, and finally announcements and a closing prayer.

At Spring Warrior all Christian men are encouraged to taking turns presenting an occasional invitation. Not all men do, but we do have some as young as ten presenting invitations.

What follows is simply a list of Scriptures one can use as a basis for his mid-week invitation:
  1. Matthew 25:14-30. Parable of the talents (3/4/09)
  2. 1 Corinthians 9:27. Paul disciplining his body, lest he be disqualified
  3. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5. Casting down arguments, spiritual warfare
  4. Ephesians 6:10-17. Whole armor of God
