“Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen.” Revelation 1:7 says that "every eye" will see Christ, "even they who pierced Him." When will this occur? Does this refer to a temporal judgment of the past that has already occurred, or to the judgment of the last day? Below are a list of Scriptures that support both views? Consider both sets of passages, and make and informed decision. (If you know of additional Scriptures that make either argument stronger, please let me know. - Bill Blue) Revelation 1:7 refers to a temporal judgment; in this case the destruction of Jerusalem. Matt. 10:23 - When they persecute you in this city, flee to another. For assuredly, I say to you, you will not have gone through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes. Matthew 16:28 - Assuredly, I say to you, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom. Matthew 24:30-31, 34 - Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 34Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. Matthew 26:64 - Jesus said to him, "It is as you said. Nevertheless, I say to you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven. Revelation 2:5 - Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place--unless you repent. Revelation 1:7 refers to the Second Coming of Christ. Matthew 16:27 - For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works. Matthew 25:31 - When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy[3] angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 - For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. John 5:28 - Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice 2 Cor. 5:10 - For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad. Revelation 20:11-13 - Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. 12And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. 13The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. Psalm 22:29 - All the prosperous of the earth Shall eat and worship; All those who go down to the dust Shall bow before Him, Even he who cannot keep himself alive. Romans 14:10-12 - 10But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you show contempt for your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.11For it is written: "As I live, says the LORD, Every knee shall bow to Me, And every tongue shall confess to God." 12So then each of us shall give account of himself to God. 1 Peter 4:5 - They will give an account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
