Supreme Court upholds Congressional ban on partial birth abortions
In a 5-4 decision, the United States Supreme Court upheld a federal law banning partial birth abortions. You can read more about the decision at CNN and MSNBC, or you can read the actual decision, Gonzales, Attorney General v. Carhart, Nos. 05-380 and 05-1382 (U.S. April 18, 2007). The justices voting in favor of the ban included Kennedy, Scalia and Thomas, and President Bush's two recent appointees: Alito and Roberts. The justices voting against the ban were Ginsburg, Stevens, Souter, and Breyer.
